Stay Safe Packs and Keep Warm Packs have been developed to help the elderly/vulnerable adults in the community.

Two significant projects have been launched recently at the Colne Valley Area Committee public meeting. As a result, Stay Safe Packs and Keep Warm Packs have been developed to help the elderly/vulnerable adults in the community.

The Stay Safe Packs will include items such as: a Report It card (or leaflet), magnifier, secret purse, permanent UV marker pen, mini door chime and various other information leaflets.

Cllr Nicola Turner, Liberal Democrat Councillor says: "It was reflected in the national press around April 2009 that 'household burglaries could escalate as the year draws out and the recession and soaring unemployment levels have been given as the reasons behind the predicted rise'.

The Stay Safe packs will help to combat the fear of crime to some extent for vulnerable adults."

The Keep Warm Packs will consist of some further useful items such as: a hot water bottle, fleece blanket, thermos mug, cup-a-soups, bed socks, thermometers, energy saving light bulbs, together with useful information leaflets. These will be rolled out to residents of Golcar and Colne Valley wards.

The packs are to be distributed using various methods and locations around the wards for the very vulnerable and/or housebound residents. This will be via older people groups, luncheon clubs, health care professionals and Council estate wardens.

Cllr Turner says: "this is a great opportunity to support the elderly and vulnerable at a time when it is most needed and will prevent people from suffering from the cold weather."
