PYENOT HALL LANE – TRAFFIC MISERY SOLUTION

Residents of Pyenot Hall Lane, Neville Street and Woodhead Street in Cleckheaton have suffered for years from traffic speeding through their streets to cut off the traffic lights at the St Peg Lane junction.
The vast majority of residents have no off street parking and many have had their cars damaged by drivers going too fast in order to beat the lights.
The volume of traffic using this short cut has increased year on year. Residents have found the situation intolerable and asked local councillors to help find a solution.
Cleckheaton Councillor Kath Pinnock said:
"We have explored a number of different solutions with residents. Kirklees Highways has been a great help in doing traffic counts so we know the scale of the problem. Highways has also advised us as councillors as to the possible solutions.
Last September, we contacted every resident on the affected streets in person or / and by letter. We asked residents to let us know their views on a proposal to close Pyenot Hall Lane at the junction with Neville Street. We had a 51% return and of those over 80% agreed with the proposal.
Kirklees Highways support the plan and Kirklees Waste Service agrees that it will not affect their bin collections.
Funding has been allocated and the work will be done this Spring. It will be a one year temporary measure in the first instance.
Residents have contacted ward councillors to say how delighted they are that action is being taken."
