A Liberal Democrat motion to Kirklees Council's next meeting demands that the promised specialist cancer unit at Dewsbury Hospital be delivered and that the Secretary of State gives a final, 100% guarantee that all acute services at the hospital will be retained.
Kirklees Liberal Democrat Group are outraged that NHS Kirklees are going back on an agreement they had made.
The call comes after it was announced that the Cancer Service for Dewsbury would not be delivered (whilst the children's services would still leave for Wakefield) and ongoing concerns among the public about the future of the hospitals A&E service.
Kirklees Liberal Democrat Group are outraged that NHS Kirklees are going back on an agreement they had made with the public via 'Your Hospital Your Say', the consultation exercise that happened in the summer of 2009. The council group believes that it is time for the Government to make their plans for the future of the hospital clear.
Cllr Ann Raistrick said:
"We will fight hard for the new cancer treatment centre and for services to be kept at Dewsbury. It's simply not right to consult the public on a set of plans, to get support and then to go back on the deal. Promises have been made and broken. We hope all members of the council will support our calls for this to be put right and to reinstate public confidence".
