Diana Wallis, the Liberal Democrat MEP for Yorkshire & the Humber, recently met representatives of the Wensleydale Railways on a recent trip to North Yorkshire.
Ms. Wallis, a Vice President of the European Parliament, met Colin Cooper of the Wensleydale Railway who explained the Wensleydale Railways' plans for a connection into a platform at Northallerton. Later she went to Leeming Bar Station to meet Wensleydale Railways Board Member Amanda Pearson and saw the recent improvements there. Light refreshments were served in the Station Buffet.
After looking round the Leeming Bar depot Diana Wallis went to look round the developments at
Leyburn Station.
Diana Wallis said:
"The interest in the reopening of the line would be of benefit both as a public and tourist facility. The ATOC (Association of Train Operating Companies )report published recently recognised that as railway passenger numbers grow the potential for reopening closed lines becomes of greater significance. This would have huge benefits not least economic and environmental."
